PM Modi to launch ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ for women on Dec 9
On December 9, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch two groundbreaking initiatives aimed at empowering women, improving education in horticulture, and fostering investment in India. These initiatives are expected to have a lasting impact on both the social and economic landscape of the country.
1. Bima Sakhi Yojana: Empowering Women through Financial Literacy and Insurance
One of the most anticipated launches is the Bima Sakhi Yojana in Panipat, Haryana. This initiative by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) aims to empower women by providing them with specialized training and financial literacy. Women aged 18-70, who have completed at least Class X, will be eligible for the program. Upon completion of the training, they will not only be equipped with the knowledge to promote financial literacy and insurance awareness but will also be eligible to become LIC agents.
The Bima Sakhi Yojana is a significant step toward gender equality and financial independence for women across India. The scheme includes a stipend for the first three years of training, making it more accessible for women from all economic backgrounds. After completing their training, the graduates, known as Bima Sakhis, will have the opportunity to take on roles as Development Officers in LIC, further solidifying their role in India’s growing insurance sector.
During the launch event, PM Modi will also distribute appointment certificates to the first batch of Bima Sakhis, marking a major milestone in women’s financial empowerment.
2. Maharana Pratap Horticultural University: Advancing Agricultural Research
In addition to the Bima Sakhi Yojana, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Karnal, Haryana. The new main campus, spread across 495 acres, will be built at an investment of over Rs 700 crore and will focus on advanced horticultural education and research. The university will house a College of Horticulture for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies and will include five schools covering 10 specialized horticulture disciplines. This initiative aims to promote crop diversification, improve horticultural technologies, and drive innovation in the field of agriculture.
By focusing on the development of research stations, the university is poised to significantly contribute to India’s agricultural growth and sustainability. The project will not only benefit the farming community but will also support the nation’s overall economic growth by enhancing agricultural productivity.
3. Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024
PM Modi’s visit to Jaipur will also mark the inauguration of the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024 at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC). This summit, which will run from December 9 to 11, will bring together global leaders, businesses, and stakeholders to discuss investment opportunities in Rajasthan. The theme of the summit, “Replete, Responsible, Ready,” emphasizes the state’s readiness for sustainable and inclusive growth.
The summit will feature 12 sectoral thematic sessions focusing on key areas such as water security, sustainable mining, sustainable finance, inclusive tourism, agri-business innovations, and women-led startups. These discussions are crucial for aligning global business practices with India’s evolving economic priorities.
Additionally, the Rajasthan Global Business Expo will showcase thematic pavilions highlighting sectors like water management, manufacturing versatility, trade and tourism, and more. This will serve as a platform for businesses to explore new opportunities and strengthen Rajasthan’s position as a hub for investment.
4. A Vision for the Future
These initiatives align with PM Modi’s vision for a “Purvodaya”—a vision of Eastern and Northern India becoming self-reliant and economically prosperous. By fostering innovation, empowering women, and improving education in specialized fields like horticulture, PM Modi is laying the foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable future for India.
The Bima Sakhi Yojana and the Maharana Pratap Horticultural University represent a commitment to building a strong, empowered workforce, particularly for women, in both urban and rural areas. The Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit provides a crucial platform to attract global attention to India’s diverse investment opportunities.
As India continues to advance its socio-economic growth, these initiatives are poised to significantly impact the lives of millions, promoting financial independence, agricultural development, and fostering international business collaboration.
With these steps, India is set to reinforce its position as a global leader, empowered by its people and strengthened by its innovation-driven economy.
