Tata Motors recently showcased its much-awaited electric SUV, the Tata Harrier EV, making it clear that the craze for electric vehicles is constantly increasing in the Indian market. We got the opportunity to visit the Tata Motors manufacturing plant in Pune, where this electric SUV performed some great stunts, including ramp-overs and tests on difficult turns. During this time, we also got a chance to compare it with its diesel variant Tata Harrier. Let’s know what are the major differences between these two SUVs.

Major differences in design
Although the overall design of Tata Harrier EV and Harrier Diesel is similar, significant changes are seen in the front look.
Front grille and bumper:
- The Tata Harrier EV has a closed grille, which gives it a modern EV look.
- It gets a new bumper with vertical slats, which seems inspired by the Nexon EV.
- In contrast, the Tata Harrier diesel gets a chrome mesh grille, which makes it more premium.
- Chrome elements are also seen in its air dam.
Branding and badging:
- The Tata Harrier EV gets a “.EV” badge on the front door, which makes its electric identity clear.
- The Tata Harrier diesel gets “HARRIER” badging.
Alloy wheels:
- The Harrier EV gets dual-tone aerodynamic alloy wheels.
- The top-spec variant of the diesel Harrier comes with 18-inch black alloy wheels.
- If you choose the Dark Edition, it gets 19-inch black alloy wheels.
Rear look:
- Both SUVs get LED connected tail lights.
- The Harrier EV gets “Harrier.EV” badging, which makes it stand out from the diesel variant.
- Also, its rear bumper comes with vertical slats like the Nexon EV.
Difference in interior and features
Tata Motors did not fully display the interior of the Harrier EV during its plant visit, but it was glimpsed during Auto Expo 2025.
Dashboard design:
- The dashboard design is almost the same in both variants.
- The Harrier EV has a dual-tone gray and white interior theme.
- At the same time, different color themes are seen in diesel variants based on the trim-variant.
Infotainment and technology:
- Both variants have a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
- The Harrier EV has a new feature called Summon Mode, which allows the car to be moved forward and backward with a remote.
- Apart from this, features like wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control are similar in both models.
Safety Features:
- Harrier EV is likely to get 7 airbags, 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).
- Advanced safety features are also present in the diesel variant, but Harrier EV is expected to get slightly better safety systems.

Powertrain and Performance
The Tata Harrier EV will be given a larger battery pack, which will be capable of giving a range of more than 500 km.
Harrier EV Powertrain:
- It will get a dual-motor setup, which will power all four wheels.
- According to estimates, its torque will be around 500 Nm.
- However, the company has not yet shared the official technical specifications.
Harrier Diesel Powertrain:
- It has a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque.
- It can be purchased with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
