Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has canceled the Class 12 English exam of March 2025 session across the state. This decision has been taken due to the possibility of a possible paper leak of the exam.

How did the paper leak suspicion arise?
This mistake came to light in a government senior secondary school located in Chauri area of Chamba district, when teachers mistakenly opened the English question paper of class 12 instead of class 10. After the board came to know about this mistake, it was decided to cancel the examination in view of the seriousness of the matter.
Information of the error received from “Exam Mitra App”
The Himachal Pradesh Education Board received this information in the form of an anonymous complaint on 7 March 2025. This complaint was lodged through the recently launched “Exam Mitra App”. The complaint said that the question paper of the class 12 English exam was opened before the scheduled time.
The Board took the complaint seriously and examined the available video clips, which confirmed that the exam paper was indeed opened before the scheduled time.
Official notice issued by the board
The official notification issued by the board said:
“On 07.03.2025 (AN) an anonymous complaint was received at the Board office stating that the question paper of Class 12 English exam was opened by mistake before the scheduled date and time at Government Senior Secondary School, Chauri, District Chamba. Taking the information seriously, the Board reviewed the video clips available through “Exam Mitra App” and confirmed the veracity of the complaint
Therefore, the Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, exercising his powers under Section 2.1.2 of the Himachal Pradesh Board Examination Rules, 1993 (as amended upto July 2017), has ordered cancellation of Class 12 English exam in the annual examination of March 2025 at all the examination centres across the state.
New exam date to be announced later
The board further said that the new date of the exam will be notified separately. Students are advised to keep a check on the board’s instructions. Keep an eye on the official website and notifications.
Reaction of students and parents
This decision has affected thousands of students who were preparing for their exams. Some students and parents have expressed their displeasure over this mistake, while some believe that cancelling the exam was the right step so that the fairness of the exam is maintained.
A student said, “We had worked very hard for the exam, but now we have to prepare again. It is mentally tiring for us.”
At the same time, a parent said, “If the paper was leaked, then cancelling the exam is the right decision. But such mistakes should not happen in future.”
Assurance from the board
The board has also assured that strict security measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in future. This includes strengthening the paper distribution system, increasing digital monitoring and making the examination process more transparent.
Conclusion
This decision taken by the Himachal Pradesh Education Board has been taken to maintain the purity and fairness of the examination. Although this has caused inconvenience to the students, it is being considered an important step to avoid such incidents in future.
