India Rebukes Pakistan’s Comment on Jammu and Kashmir at UN, Urges Substantial Peacekeeping Reforms

India Rejects Pakistan's Remarks

India has resoundingly rejected Pakistan’s continued mentions of Jammu and Kashmir at a United Nations discussion on peacekeeping reforms, claiming that the comments are “unwarranted” and reiterating that the region “was, is, and will always remain an integral part of India.”

India Rebukes Pakistan’s Bid to Politicize UN Forum

Addressing the Security Council meeting, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, strongly rebutted Pakistan’s statement, accusing it of trying to “divert attention” from the very essence of discussions on peacekeeping reforms.

India is forced to observe that the Pakistani delegate has again indulged in unjustified comments on the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. These repeated references neither substantiate their illegal assertions nor support their state-sponsored cross-border terrorism,” Harish declared.

The Indian diplomat underscored the fact that Pakistan itself is involved in the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir territory and reiterating India’s long-standing call for Islamabad to vacate occupied territory. “Pakistan still illegally occupies the Jammu and Kashmir territory, which needs to be vacated by it,” he stated, asserting that India would not let its sovereignty challenged on international forums.

India Rejects Pakistan’s ‘Parochial and Divisive Agenda’

India rejected Pakistan’s efforts to raise Jammu and Kashmir at a meeting devoted to reforming UN peacekeeping as a bid to impose a “parochial and divisive agenda.” Harish emphasized that such an attempt would not work in distracting from serious debate on global peacekeeping challenges.

“We would caution Pakistan against an effort to divert the attention of this forum away from meaningful discussions. India will avoid the exercise of an even more elaborate Right of Reply,” he added, indicating India’s reluctance to indulge in an extensive tit-for-tat but making sure that Pakistan’s disingenuous assertions weren’t left uncorrected.

India’s Call for Peacekeeping Reforms and Enhancing Global Missions

In speaking to the overall topic of the session—reforms of UN peacekeeping—India used the platform to reiterate the need for modernizing peacekeeping missions to counter current security threats. Harish spoke of increasing threats from armed groups, non-state actors, and sophisticated weaponry, and underlined the need for peacekeeping missions to adjust in response.

One of India’s major suggestions was that troop- and police-contributing countries should have more voice in determining the mandates of peacekeeping missions. “Those who put boots on the ground must have a decisive voice in mandate formulation. There must be an alignment between resources, expectations, and operational realities,” he emphasized.

Harish also advocated for “sufficient funding” to make sure that peacekeeping operations are well-equipped and not exposed to vulnerabilities because of a lack of resources. The demand for reform in funding is in line with India’s long-standing efforts to make UN peacekeeping more effective, accountable, and responsive to international crises.

Women’s Role in Peacekeeping: India’s Leadership and Advocacy

Another key point of India’s address was calling for greater involvement of women in UN peacekeeping missions. Ambassador Harish mentioned that India had recently organized the first-ever Conference of Women Peacekeepers from the Global South, reaffirming the nation’s leadership for promoting gender inclusion in peacekeeping missions.

It is no longer a matter of whether women can do peacekeeping. Instead, it is about whether peacekeeping can live without women,” he said, stressing the crucial contribution of women in conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction.

India has been leading in the use of women peacekeepers, sending out the first ever all-woman peacekeeping mission to Liberia back in 2007. It continues to promote gender-balanced missions and notes that women introduce new angles of view and talents that can enrich peacekeeping outcomes.

India’s Call for UN Security Council Reforms

Apart from peacekeeping, India reaffirmed its call for UN Security Council reforms on a permanent basis, on the grounds that the organization needs to become “more reflective and representative of current geopolitical realities.” Since India is one of the key contributors to UN peacekeeping, it has for years been demanding a permanent seat at the Security Council on the grounds that rising world powers need to be accorded a place in decision-making forums.

“Times have changed, but the Security Council has been stuck in time. It is essential to democratize the UN system and make it purposeful for the 21st century,” Harish stressed.

Pakistan’s Record on Terrorism and Kashmir

With a veiled but sharp allusion to Pakistan’s past record of sheltering and patronizing terrorist organizations, India highlighted that cross-border terrorism continues to be the largest threat to regional peace and security.

“The biggest obstacle to stability in South Asia remains the export of terror across borders. While Pakistan tries to dupe the international community, the fact is that it grants free space to internationally listed terrorist outfits,” an Indian diplomatic source said after the debate.

India has consistently urged Pakistan to dismantle terror networks operating from its soil and stop interfering in the internal affairs of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has continued to support extremist groups in spite of international pressure, earning criticism from various countries.

Conclusion: India’s Commitment to Peace and Sovereignty

India’s strong reaction at the UN Security Council reiterated its unshakeable stance on Jammu and Kashmir while reiterating its commitment to international peacekeeping and UN reforms.

In advocating for a more effective peacekeeping role, higher women’s participation, and a remodelled Security Council, India positioned itself as a responsible international citizen committed to building stronger global security systems. Concurrently, its absolute dismissal of Pakistan’s efforts to politicise the UN platform reaffirmed India’s position that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal issue, not subject to negotiation.

As the geopolitical environment keeps changing, India stands firm in defending its sovereignty, combating disinformation, and making effective contributions to genuine international peacekeeping. The world, especially the UN, needs to acknowledge these facts and strive for a more inclusive, transparent, and responsive global security order. source ANINEWS
