Avanti West Coast Staff Announce New Strike Dates

Source: Sky News

Avanti West Coast train managers are set to walk out on several key dates, including New Year’s Eve, as a dispute over rest day working intensifies. The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) announced industrial action after its members overwhelmingly rejected the company’s latest offer in two referendums.

Strikes will take place on 31 December, 2 January, and Sundays between 12 January and 25 May.

An RMT spokesperson stated, “Our members have decisively rejected Avanti’s proposals. Sustained strike action is now the only means to pressure management into negotiating a fair settlement.”

The union confirmed that nearly 400 members are involved in the dispute, with 83% voting against the suggested deal.

Last week, the RMT suspended strikes planned for 22, 23, and 29 December after a proposed agreement was put forward. However, the rejection of this deal has reignited the dispute.

Passengers are being urged to check for updates as significant disruption is expected. Avanti West Coast has yet to issue a statement on the new strike dates.
