Mudra Yojana Turns 10: A Decade of Empowering Dreams
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated 10 years of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) by meeting with some of its beneficiaries at his residence. What began as a government scheme has now become a movement that’s touched millions of lives. “It’s an eye-opener for any government that truly wants to empower its people,” PM Modi said with pride.
A Warm Welcome from the PM
The event began on a heartwarming note. PM Modi greeted the beneficiaries with folded hands and a big smile. “Our scriptures say that when guests enter a home, the place becomes pure,” he said, setting a warm, personal tone for the evening.
₹33 Lakh Crore Given Without Asking for Collateral
PM Modi highlighted how the Mudra Yojana has made lending accessible to everyone, especially those without big assets. He shared a staggering figure — loans worth ₹33 lakh crore have been given out without any guarantee or collateral.
“Some say this government only works for the rich. But even if you total up everything the rich got, it wouldn’t add up to ₹33 lakh crore. That money went straight to the common man,” he said passionately.
Small Loans, Big Dreams
He called the scheme a powerful push for young entrepreneurs. “This isn’t about giving credit to Modi. This is about giving courage to the youth of this country to stand on their own feet,” he added.
Many who took these loans, he said, are now employers themselves — hiring one, two, or even fifty people. “That’s how the economy grows — from the ground up,” PM Modi explained.
Women Are Leading the Way
One of the most inspiring parts? Women are at the forefront of this success story. PM Modi revealed that the majority of Mudra loan recipients are women. They’ve taken more loans, repaid faster, and started countless businesses.
“This is true self-reliance,” he said, highlighting the quiet revolution taking place in homes and small towns across the country.
From the Gulf to God’s Own Country — An Inspiring Kerala Story
One of the evening’s most touching moments came when a man from Kerala shared his journey. He was working in the UAE, far from home. But thanks to the Mudra loan, he came back, started a business, and became his own boss.
PM Modi couldn’t help but joke, “Was your mother upset when you left your job abroad?” The man smiled and replied, “Everything worked out well.” The audience laughed and clapped.
A Journey of 10 Years, 52 Crore Loans
Since it began in April 2015, the scheme has helped over 52 crore people, disbursing loans worth ₹32.61 lakh crore. It was designed to help small businesses and micro-entrepreneurs — especially those who couldn’t get loans before due to lack of collateral.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi encouraged everyone to meet these beneficiaries. “Their stories are truly inspiring,” he wrote, along with a video of the interaction.
The Spirit of Enterprise Across India
As India celebrates 10 years of Mudra Yojana, one thing is clear — this isn’t just a government scheme anymore. It’s a grassroots revolution. It’s about ordinary people chasing extraordinary dreams — and achieving them.
With more financial inclusion, easier access to loans, and a growing sense of self-belief, the future looks bright.
