PUNE: A tragic incident unfolded in Pune’s Wagholi area late Sunday night when a drunk dumper driver ran over a group of individuals sleeping on the roadside, leaving three dead, including two children, and six others critically injured.
The accident occurred near Kesnand Phata around 12:30 am. According to local authorities, the victims were migrant workers from Amravati who had come to Pune in search of work.
The deceased have been identified as Vaibhav Ritesh Pawar (1 year old), Ritesh Vaibhav Pawar (2 years old), and Rinesh Nitesh Pawar (3 years old). The injured were rushed to Sassoon Hospital by the police for immediate medical care.
Initial investigations revealed that the dumper driver was heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident. Pune Police have detained the driver and launched a detailed probe into the matter.
“This tragedy underscores the dangers of reckless and impaired driving. The driver will face strict legal action,” a senior police officer said.
Separate Incident in Mumbai
In a separate incident in Mumbai, a four-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a speeding car driven by a 19-year-old.
The incident occurred near Ambedkar College in the Wadala area on Sunday. According to the police, the child’s family resides on the footpath, and his father is a laborer.
The driver, identified as Bhushan Gole, was reversing his Hyundai Creta when he fatally hit the boy. He was arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, and further investigations are underway.
Both incidents highlight the increasing concern over road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.
