Bhubaneswar: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Women and Child Development Minister Pravati Parida has announced that more than 98 lakh women have been benefitted under the Subhadra Yojana so far. She also informed that more women will be provided assistance on the upcoming 6th March and International Women’s Day (8th March).

98 lakh women benefitted from Subhadra Yojana, more help soon

Pravati Parida said, “We have benefitted more than 98 lakh women so far under the Subhadra Yojana. Our target is to provide the benefit of this scheme to more than 1 crore women. On 6th March, we will provide assistance to more than 1,70,000 women and on 8th March, a total of Rs 5,000 crore will be distributed to 1 crore women.”

Subhadra Yojana: Economic Support for Women

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the approval of the Subhadra Yojana for women empowerment in the state assembly in August 2024. According to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on August 24, the scheme will be implemented from the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29. A total budget of Rs 55,825.00 crore has been set for the scheme.

According to the CMO, the Subhadra Yojana has been created to bring a change in the lives of more than 1 crore women. The scheme will cover all eligible women aged 21 years or above and below 60 years.

Under the scheme, every eligible woman will be given an assistance of Rs 10,000 per year. The amount will be given in two installments—the first installment will be provided on the day of Rakshabandhan (Rakhi Purnima) and the second installment on International Women’s Day (March 8). Thus, a beneficiary woman will get a total assistance of Rs 50,000 in five years.

Benefits will be given directly in the bank account

To ensure transparency in the scheme, the assistance amount will be transferred directly to the Aadhaar-enabled bank account (DBT) of the beneficiary. This payment will be made through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS). Apart from this, a special “Subhadra Debit Card” will also be issued to the beneficiaries, through which they will be able to use this amount.

Digital transactions will be promoted

To encourage digital payments, 100 women will be identified in each Gram Panchayat and Urban Local Body, who will have made the most digital transactions. These women will also be given an additional incentive of Rs 500. The government believes that this step will promote the trend of digital transactions among women and they will become more financially empowered.

Who will not get the benefit of the scheme?

The government has also clarified that this scheme is only for economically weaker women. Therefore, women from financially well-off families, government employees and women paying income tax will not be eligible under this scheme. Also, women who are already receiving Rs 1,500 per month or Rs 18,000 annual assistance under any other government scheme will also not be able to avail the benefits of this scheme.

An important step towards women empowerment

The Odisha government believes that the Subhadra Yojana will help make women financially independent and empowered. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “Our government is working on the principle of ‘Antyodaya’, which aims to extend the benefits of government schemes to the lowest sections of the society. Through the Subhadra Yojana, we are taking an important step towards making women self-reliant and improving their standard of living.”

This scheme will prove to be a great support for the women of Odisha, especially those who are financially weak and dependent on any other financial assistance. This initiative of the government is considered a historic step towards women empowerment. source ANINEWS
