On January 26, 2025, a disturbing incident unfolded in Jaypee Kosmos Society, Sector 134, Noida, where a dog lover, Tamanna, claimed she was attacked by a mob of over 300 people. According to the victim, the mob attempted to murder her while she was feeding stray dogs at a designated spot outside the society. Tamanna alleged that the police sided with the mob and took her into custody instead of protecting her.
‘Mob Tried to Kill Me’
Tamanna, a resident of Jaypee Kosmos, who is a dog lover recounted the horrifying incident, stating, “A crowd of 300 people surrounded me, attacked me, and filed a baseless FIR against me. I was feeding dogs at the designated place when the mob turned hostile, shouting slogans like ‘apne bachhe bachaiye.’ The police supported them instead of helping me.”
‘We Were Attacked and Lynched’
Jayanti, another resident of Jaypee Kosmos, shared details of the incident with Apartment Times. She revealed that Tamanna has been feeding stray dogs outside the society for a long time, which has led to resentment among some residents. Jayanti alleged that a journalist from a prominent media group instigated the mob, leading to the attack. “Tamanna was molested by the mob, and they tried to kill her just because she was feeding dogs. She was following the rules by feeding at the designated place approved by the AOA (Apartment Owners’ Association),” Jayanti said.
‘This Is Not Justice, This Is a Joke’
Ambika Shukla from People for Animals (PFA), who is supporting Tamanna, expressed shock over the police’s handling of the situation. “Instead of taking her complaint seriously and ensuring a medical check-up, the police put her in lock-up. This is not justice; it’s a joke,” Shukla said.
‘Mob Attack Orchestrated by Influential Media Person’
Jayanti further alleged that the entire attack was orchestrated by a senior editor from a national channel, who is reportedly connected to the Home Ministry. “This media person and his followers are dog haters. They spread false stories about us, claiming we are profiting from this noble cause. He directed the mob to attack us,” she claimed.
‘Police Supporting the Wrongdoers’
Jayanti accused the police of siding with the attackers. “Tamanna was assaulted, her phones were confiscated, and she was jailed simply because she cares for dogs and is a dog lover. The police are supporting the wrongdoers,” she said.
Demands of Dog Feeders & Dog Lovers
The dog feeders have put forward several demands, including:
- Closure of the fake FIR against Tamanna.
- Legal action against those who attacked and molested her.
- Immediate release of three men associated with their group.
- Return of two vehicles confiscated by the police.
- Assurance that such incidents will not recur in the future.
History of Conflict
This is not the first time tensions have flared in the society over stray dogs. Earlier, a stray dog allegedly tried to bite a child, leading to a confrontation between Tamanna and the child’s mother. Residents have repeatedly complained about Tamanna feeding dogs inside the society, claiming it poses a security and hygiene risk.
Residents’ Complaints
Residents of Jaypee Kosmos have filed multiple complaints against Tamanna, accusing her of breeding dogs inside her flat and causing disturbances. They allege that she and her supporters have threatened residents and ignored warnings from the AOA and police. “She feeds dogs everywhere in the society, not just at designated spots, and this has led to an increase in the number of stray dogs,” said a resident.
Police Deny Mob Lynching Allegations
When contacted, Sanjay Malik, a police officer from Sector 137 Expressway, denied the allegations of mob lynching. “There was no mob lynching. Tamanna feeds dogs indiscriminately, disturbing the peace of the society. The allegations of mob violence are false,” he stated.
Noida Authority Takes Action
The Noida Authority has fined Tamanna for breeding dogs inside her residential flat, which violates the dog policy released in December 2022. The policy prohibits running breeding centers within residential societies.
Residents’ Perspective
Residents claim that the incident was not a mob lynching but a protest against Tamanna’s activities. “We stopped her vehicle from entering the society due to security concerns. This was about protecting our children, not a mob attack,” said a resident.
The incident has sparked a heated debate between dog lover and residents, highlighting the need for a balanced approach to managing stray animals in residential areas.
