Wishing World Wildlife Day, the Prime Minister said, “Today on World Wildlife Day, let us set the standard for our class towards protecting and preserving the amazing biodiversity of our earth. Each wildlife has its own important role – let’s ensure the safety of our future! We are proud of the claim that India has protected us.”

Conservation of Asiatic Lions and Government Initiatives

Currently, Asiatic lions reside in 53 talukas of 9 habitats in an area of ​​about 30,000 square kilometres. The Gujarat government has taken several important initiatives to protect these magnificent wildlife and other wildlife. Apart from this, under the national project, a National Resal Centre for Wildlife is being set up on 20.24 hectares of land at New Pipalya in Junagadh district.

According to a statement issued by the government, a high-tech monitoring centre and healthcare hospital have also been set up at Sasan to monitor the samples, thereby creating places for conservation. The Gujarat government has taken several concrete steps for the conservation of Asiatic lions. In the year 2024, 237 beat guards (162 men and 75 women) were recruited to ensure the safety of protected belt guards and lion habitats in the Gir region.

For the protection of Asiatic lions in Sasan Gir and the overall development of the Gir region, the Chief Minister of Statistics Gujarat and the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi is playing an important role. In 2007, he himself had visited the Gir forest to understand the floors usefully and to get the necessary information. Subsequently, he led several transformational initiatives for the holistic development of the Gir region, conservation of lions and preservation of the rich biodiversity.

The Prime Minister introduced the vision of ‘Greater Gir’, which included the Gir National Park and protection of 30,000 sq km area, stretching from Barda to Botad, where the Asiatic lions are found. With the development of ‘Greater Gir’, he also ensured local welfare and progress.
