Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday thanked Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam and the people and government of Mauritius for their warm hospitality after concluding his two-day Mauritius state visit.

On Wednesday, the second day of his visit, PM Modi was conferred the country’s highest civilian honour by Mauritius President Dharam Gokhool. This was the second time PM Modi was invited as the chief guest for Mauritius’ National Day. Earlier, in 2015 too, he was the chief guest at the event.
Prime Minister Modi performed Puja at Ganga Talao and added holy water brought from Prayagraj Maha Kumbh. Thousands of people gathered on this special occasion despite heavy rains and were present to see Prime Minister Modi accepting this national honour.
Prime Minister Modi was also conferred Mauritius’ highest national honour, Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. While accepting this honour, Prime Minister Modi said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude for conferring me the highest national award of Mauritius. This is not only my honour but the honour of 1.4 billion Indians. It is a symbol of centuries-old cultural and historical ties between India and Mauritius. It is also a symbol of our shared commitment to regional peace, progress, security and sustainable development. It is a symbol of the shared dreams and aspirations of the Global South.”
Prime Minister Modi also jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation along with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam. On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi said that this institute will become a center of knowledge and research, which will open new possibilities towards administrative innovation and development.
National Day celebrations and cultural relations
