PM Modi’s Visit to Rameshwaram
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to be in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, on April 6 to commemorate the sacred Ram Navmi. During his visit, PM Modi will pay his respects at ancient Ramanathaswamy Temple, which is a much-hallowed place of pilgrimage that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The visit reflects the focus of the government on the maintenance and promotion of India’s diverse cultural and religious heritage.
Besides his temple visit, the Prime Minister will also open the newly built Pamban Bridge, a landmark infrastructure project that increases connectivity between mainland India and Rameshwaram. The function is likely to see the attendance of a number of important dignitaries, such as Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Tamil Nadu government representatives, and top railway officials.
New Pamban Bridge: A Modern Engineering Marvel
The new Pamban Bridge is a landmark in India’s infrastructure growth. It has replaced the old Pamban Rail Bridge, which was initially built in 1914 and had been a vital connection between the mainland and the island town of Rameshwaram for more than a century. But because of severe corrosion and wear and tear, the old bridge was shut down in December 2022.
The recently constructed Pamban Bridge, which stretches over 2.5 km, has been erected at a cost of ₹535 crore by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The state-of-the-art bridge includes a vertical lift mechanism, with it being India’s first-of-its-kind railway sea bridge. The vertical lifts enable the passage of ships and boats beneath, facilitating uninterrupted maritime navigation without disrupting efficient rail movement.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a tweet in November 2024, called the bridge a “symbol of progress and modern engineering.” He noted that the new bridge is built to support higher-speed trains and more traffic, greatly enhancing transportation and connectivity to Rameshwaram.
“The New Pamban Bridge is not only operational but is a signboard in India’s rail network. It will improve connectivity for pilgrims and tourists traveling to Rameshwaram while making travel safer and more efficient,” Vaishnaw said.
The construction of the bridge is part of the government’s overall vision of developing railway infrastructure throughout the nation with emphasis placed on cutting-edge technology and safety improvements.

Bangladesh National Day: A Historic Occasion
Bangladesh National Day, which falls every year on March 26, marks the declaration of Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971. The day marks the beginning of the freedom fight of Bangladesh, which ended up creating an independent nation after nine months of war.
Over the years, a robust and resilient relationship, supported by the countries’ mutual past and collective heritage, has emerged between India and Bangladesh. Despite the fact that the two nations are actively engaged in a variety of partnerships, the country’s alliance serves as the foundation for economic progress and regional stability.
India’s dedication to infrastructure development and connectivity is exemplified by PM Modi’s visit to Rameshwaram and the inauguration of the new Pamban Bridge. India’s strategic vision for regional cooperation and mutual development is further bolstered by its ongoing diplomatic engagement with Bangladesh.
