Spain vs England Highlights from the record-breaking European Championship, won by Spain over England in the 2024 final
In the Euro 2024 final of Spain vs England, Spain defeated England 2-1 to win their fourth European Championship. Spain has now won the competition four times in a row, securing its supremacy.
Both teams played cautiously in the first half, with England managing the only goal on target while Spain kept possession of the ball. But following the interval, the game’s tempo drastically changed.
Within two minutes after the start of the second half, Spain broke the tie. By taking advantage of space on the right side, Lamine Yamal crossed the ball precisely to Nico Williams, who finished the goal with assurance. This was England’s fourth successive game in which they let up the first goal.
Spain kept applying pressure to England’s defence, which led to numerous scoring opportunities. In an attempt to provide attacking momentum, England manager Gareth Southgate responded by inserting Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer as replacements.
Results from the substitutions were seen right away. Jude Bellingham set up Cole Palmer for the equalising goal in the 73rd minute, as Palmer curled a crisp shot into the net. The crowd, who was primarily English, became enthused by the goal, which changed the game’s flow.
Even with England’s comeback, Spain managed to withstand the pressure and take back the lead. Mikel Oyarzabal, a substitute who came on in the 68th minute, proved to be the difference.
He and Marc Cucurella worked well together on a counterattack in the 86th minute, which resulted in Oyarzabal’s clinical finish to seal the win for Spain.
In the last seconds, England had a chance to tie the score, but Dani Olmo’s goal-line clearance and Unai Simon’s save of Declan Rice’s header secured Spain’s victory.
